Beauty Buzz: The best mascaras right now

Maybelline Volum' Express Colassal Chaotic Lash

If you’re like me, it’s rare you’re using any one product on its own. I’m constantly juggling and mixing BB creams with concealers, layering lipsticks with glosses and dabbing a host of fragrances on my wrists, behind the ears and on my collarbone. Because aren’t we all just mad scientists Frankenstein-ing what’s on our vanities to suit our own individual beauty needs?

When it comes to mascara, that means the most volume, length and fullness without dryness or flaking. No small task, that.

So here are three of my favourite mascaras at the moment, to be used all together or mixed and matched for maximum lashes.

Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Chaotic Lash (washable)
Yup, it’s a mouthful but all of those descriptors seemingly serve a purpose because this wand works wonders. The idea here is creating your own one-of-a-kind sexy mascara mess by sweeping horizontally and then going back over the lashes vertically for that second-day laisse faire I-woke-up-like-this quality. If you’re looking for precision, look elsewhere. But if you like that slept-in look, this one’s a winner.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
Again, lofty title but this little pink power tube delivers. The collagen-infused formula promises something absurd like 1,200% more volume and while that’s a hard thing to quantify, the proof is in the dramatic lashes you’ll get from even one application. But who can stop there?

Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes
The British makeup magician knows beauty and when she came out with her own product line after 20 years as the fave face lady amongst your Kates, Giseles and Penelopes, beauty lovers rejoiced! Her mascara is deceptively simple; no fancy ergonomic brush and a fairly straightforward formula but it does what it promises. Namely: curl, separation, volume, length, drama. Thank you Charlotte Tilbury.
